Job Description
As a Kitchen Assistant, your role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen and the delivery of quality meals to residents, team and visitors. Your dedication to cleanliness, organisation, and teamwork contributes to a safe and enjoyable dining experience for all.
You will assist with food preparation and the maintaining of a clean environment facilitating the safe production of meals in support of the catering team, ensuring a high quality and comprehensive meal service.

- Coordination and Collaboration: In our care home, different departments work harmoniously together and communication is of vital importance. All departments must work together seamlessly to provide comprehensive care to residents. Effective internal communication fosters coordination and collaboration among these departments, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and working towards common goals.
- Assist with the preparation of food to deliver high quality restaurant level standards.
- Carry out all cleaning duties in the kitchen area in accordance with the work schedule.
- Preparation of food including vegetables, salads, sandwiches and other snacks.
- General cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen area, equipment and appliances.
- Receiving, checking and safely storing kitchen deliveries.
- Understand the principles of safe food handling, to ensure all food preparations undertaken in the kitchen are to the highest standards of hygiene.
- Understand the cleaning requirements of different surfaces and equipment and the properties of cleaning materials, to ensure the areas are well presented and maintained in good condition.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, other team and other professionals.
- Highlight to the Chef any shortfall in service and make suggestions as to how to overcome them.
- Undertake simple cooking duties as directed by the Chef.
- Ensure that you keep legible, accurate and detailed records in line with the Company policy and regulatory requirements.
- Report on the supply and quality of items used to carry out tasks, ensuring the timely and appropriate ordering of replacement goods.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and the proper use of all machinery and equipment and compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and requirements from the Regulatory Authorities.
- Complete any mandatory training specified during the induction and thereafter to ensure that you are competent to fulfil the responsibilities of your role.
- To attend team meetings and training sessions as required for the better performance of your duties.
