Thanet DAA Offer Unique Sensory Care Event for Dementia at Chartwell House
This sensory themed event is designed to engage, relax, and entertain attendees living with dementia, and we can’t wait to share the experience with everyone.
The Thanet Dementia Action Alliance is a group of local businesses, organisations, and individuals committed to improving the lives of people living with dementia in the Thanet area. They aim to raise awareness, provide education and training, and support those living with dementia and their carers to ensure they feel included, valued, and supported in their community.
The event at Chartwell House will showcase a variety of sensory activities, designed to provide stimulation and relaxation for attendees. The Thai Chi session will provide gentle exercise, promoting physical and mental wellbeing, while the sensory dogs will offer therapeutic interaction and companionship. Broadstairs College beautician students will be on hand for hand and nail care/massage, and the sensory activity table will provide tactile stimulation and creative opportunities.
In addition to these activities, attendees will be able to enjoy visual mood scenes on screen, accompanied by gentle background guitar music from a local guitarist. And, of course, there will be a sensory taster table for food and drink refreshments, providing a range of flavours and textures to excite the senses.
Diane Collins, Home Manager at Chartwell House expressed her delight at being able to host the Thanet DAA for another insightful and fun event – “We’re thrilled to be hosting the Thanet Dementia Action Alliance’s sensory event at Chartwell House. As a care home that specialises in dementia care, we understand how important sensory experiences are for our residents. We’re excited to be able to support the Thanet DAA in hosting this event, share our expertise and offer this event to the wider community.”
